HIGHLIGHTS, Jan. 12, 2021, Delta County Commissioner public meeting

• District 3 County Commissioner Wendell Koontz took his oath of office earlier this morning and was present at today’s business meeting.
• District 1 Commissioner Mike Lane (pictured) will chair the Board of County Commissioners in 2021. District 2 Commissioner Don Suppes is vice chair.
• BLM’s Uncompahgre Field Office Manager, Gregory Larson announced that he has been named manager of the new BLM Upper Colorado River District, which includes the Grand Junction Field Office and the Colorado River Valley Field Office in Silt. He will be stationed in Grand Junction.
Larson introduced several staff members from the Uncompahgre Field Office, based in Montrose, and noted that developing recreational opportunities in Delta County is a top priority for the BLM office. County Administration confirmed their 2021 focus on developing several of the area’s trail systems including the “unauthorized” Jumbo Mountain system.
• Greg Rajnowski, County Environment Health Director, gave Commissioners an update on the county’s COVID-19 status.
Rajnowski told Commissioners at this morning’s public meeting that four more people have died from the virus bringing the total toll to 35. He added that while numbers are currently high due to holiday gatherings, he expected a drop in the next several weeks but only if people continue playing it safe.
He also shared his concerns about the lack of vaccinations coming from current supply chains but hopes that Federal supplies will open up soon.
