Delta County quietly implements new open records policy and process

JOANN KALENAK, SENIOR BLOGGER, DCCR — As of June 1, 2023, citizens and media now must file all requests for open public records from Delta County government via an online form on the county’s website.

The county further seems to have adopted a lengthy policy that describes such things as: How requests will be processed, possible fees charged to the requester, process timing, and instances where documents may be denied.

While the website states that the county is committed to “the principle of open and accessible government,” officials have made no mention of this new policy or process in a public meeting, Facebook post or other form of public outreach. It’s unclear if the seven-page policy is included in the county’s employee handbook, how it was developed, or who approved its implementation.
