HIGHLIGHTS, July 9, 2018, Special County Commissioner meeting

• Debbie Griffith, Delta County Assessor, presented her annual report of assessment appeals and current assessed valuation. She reported 99 protests, “…way down from past years,” said Griffith and that current property tax totals are around $2.9 million. Despite early warnings that the Gallagher and Tabor Amendments would lower total property tax income by almost $400,000, a recalculation by the state has resulted in much higher revenues. “We may even break even (this year),” said Griffith. “All indications say values will increase.” Griffith also mentioned that Delta County needs increased commercial and industrial development since their tax rates are appreciably higher.
