* North Fork Pool and Recreation and Home Plate (youth baseball organization) are working on a GOCO grant to build new baseball fields around the Hotchkiss pool recreation area. They have asked commissioners to contribute some of the required matched funding via the Conservation Trust Funds (CTF) held by the county. County administrator and commissions are receptive but will “find funds” from other sources beside CTF. Construction on the ball fields is planned to begin next summer pending financing.

* County GIS department gained approval to change road-naming policy to limit characters/spaces to 13 and the number of syllables to two-to-three, maximum.

* The county will develop a Hazard Mitigation Master Plan in conjunction with the County Master Plan and the Recreation and Trails Master Plan. The county’s planning department will coordinate a group meeting between the contractors involved in each plan to identify commonalities. A public input campaign is planned for the Hazard Mitigation plan.

* SolSmart community designation remains under consideration.

What does the designation mean? The designation is a way to recognize U.S. communities that have taken steps to reduce barriers to solar and encourage the growth of a more robust solar market. It will serve as a signal to the solar market that the community is “open for solar business.” Achieving designation should decrease customer costs, provide jobs, and increase investment in solar development. The designation will also represent a point of pride for recipient communities, their elected officials and staff, and their residents. Finally, the designation signifies that the community is committed to a cleaner environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
