HIGHLIGHTS, Commissioner work session, April, 10

1) CU Extension staff updated commissioners on progress at the Hotchkiss demonstration plot designed to help landowners and managers understand and implement stewardship on the land.

Some 32-plus grasses, planted on both irrigated and on dryland, are thriving at the Delta Fairgrounds location as a hands-on visual of what works best locally.

2) Bob Kalenak met with commissioners for the last time as county engineer. Kalenak announced his resignation in mid-March and has spent the pass month wrapping up various road data updates and the initial launch of the Rogers Mesa Access Control Plan. County administration is investigating other local government engineering infrastructures to determine the future of the county’s engineering department.

3) Commissioners consider waiting for the new fiscal year before increasing fees at the county landfill to give towns and municipal carriers the chance to include the increase in their new budgets.

4) Master Plan interviews and public input planned for May (see earlier posts).

5) Region 10 updated commissioners on their fast developing “Middle Mile Broadband” project. http://www.region10.net/regional-development/broadband/
