HIGHLIGHTS, Commissioner public meeting, Monday, April 17

1) Master Plan consultants RPI and a newly subcontracted consultant, Del Corazon, will begin public meetings on May 15. Del Corazon has worked with area organizations in the past including the North Fork Heart and Soul project. http://www.delcorazonconsulting.com/services.html

2) The county’s banking service provider will move from Wells Fargo to Alpine State Bank. County Treasurer, Lisa Tafoya, made the recommendation after conducting an interview process that involved several county staff. Fees and minimum deposit comparisons were among the main determination factors.

3) The state demographer will present Delta County demographic and economic information at a meeting on May 9 (time to be determined). Commissioner Atchley suggests that the presentation be open to municipalities, hospital administration and other interested stakeholders.

4) Commissioners approved the creation of a county resolution that would add two additional board members to the Delta County Planning Commission bringing the total count to nine members. While recruitment will focus on Districts 1 and 2, the commissioners hope to eventually spread planning representation evenly across all three districts (three members per district). Administrator LeValley said that the process would happen through attrition and that no current board member would be asked to step down.

5) The county’s Health and Human Services monthly report focused on concern about the possibility of losing LEAP funding (heating and energy support for low-income people) from the federal government. The department’s director, Chuck Lemoine, commented that the county could never hope to make up the more than $500,000 that the county receives from the program.

Staff also reminded the commissioners that April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and talked about their efforts to bring public attention to a nationwide epidemic. http://americanspcc.org/national-child-abuse-prevention-month
