HIGHLIGHTS, March 20, County Commissioner Meeting

1) The consultant firm hired to update the county’s Master Plan has asked for another month before submitting their schedule for public involvement into the plan. RPI Consultants had originally hoped to begin their public interviews, town hall meetings and countywide survey in April. This timetable has been pushed to May.

2) Commissioners have eliminated the Quarterly Constituent Forums sighting zero to limited attendance. Each vowed to hold separate forums within their district and Chairman Atchley reminded everyone that any one interested in speaking with all three Commissioners could do so at their by-weekly public meetings (next one schedule for April 3.)
3) Commissioners approved a comment letter to BLM about Gunnison Energy’s North Fork Mancos Master Development Plan (35 wells and 5 well pads in the Iron Point, Deadman Gultch area). Email joannlkalenak@gmail.com to get a copy of the letter.
4) Citizen Report asked Commissioners to consider the creation of a community-lead committee that would advise Commissioners on lottery-funded recreation projects on publically owned land. Large sums of lottery funds remain unspent by the county and Citizen Report urged Commissioners to develop a strategy to fairly invest in projects that represent all constituents. Commissioners commented that they planned to use much of the funding to build trails in the area in conjunction with a recently awarded GOCO grant that would develop a Trails Master Plan. Citizen Report will post more detail and recording of the meeting early tomorrow morning.
5) Motion passed to add two new positions to the Delta County Planning Commission.
6) Motion passed to fill open positions in several Area Planning Committees (APC). All three Commissioners expressed their belief that the APC’s may not be needed in the future but that decision would come at another time.
7) Patrick McLoughlin of Hotchkiss asked Commissioners to consider zoning and building permits to help prevent some of the issues he’s experienced after recently moving to the area and encountering costly problems with local contractors.
